Health officials are recommending that women with darker skin tones use a light-coloured face cream or powder for more effective and natural skin care.
The guidelines, which are being developed by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, say that the darker skin tone should be used with a cream or a powder containing a blend of light- and dark-colour ingredients, rather than one containing one or the other.
They say that a blend containing light- or dark-contouring ingredients will work best for darker skin types.
A light-contour cream or skin cream containing a light powder, for example, will work better for people with darker, darker-skinned skin.
